Members of the SA Voice recently spent time with residents of the Adelaide Women's Prison and Yatala Labour Prison.
On Thursday 24 August 2025 Voice Members visited the Adelaide Women’s Prison and Yatala Labour Prison accompanied by Hon. Emily Bourke MLC (Minister for Emergency and Correctional Services), David Brown (Chief Executive, Department for Correctional Services) and other senior correctional staff.
During this time, the Voice Members had the opportunity to learn more about the operations of the prisons, operations and programs for First Nations residents. They also had the opportunity to meet directly with First Nations residents from the Ruby, Pearl and Rose Units in the women’s Prison, and Murnu Unit in the men’s prison, to hear their views and lived experience first-hand.
Our thanks to Minister Bourke and the Department for Correctional Services for hosting the Voice Members. We would also like to acknowledge and thank the First Nations staff and residents for allowing us into their space.
