Community engagement events are more than just an opportunity to talk with Voice Members.

Throughout 2025, SA’s First Nations Voice to Parliament has travelled across the state to hold Local Voice meetings and learn about local community issues.

On Friday 26 September, Members of the Kumangka Warrarna Wangkanthi (Central) Voice travelled to the John McVeity Centre in Smithfield Plains for a community engagement session and their third Local Voice meeting this year.

During the community engagement, there was an emphasis on the need for greater supports for educators, young people, mental health, and wellbeing. The community also spoke of the health programs for First Nations residents in the Northern Adelaide Local Health region, which provide for more flexible and culturally sensitive approaches.

At these meeting, local community members get to share information with each other and develop solutions to benefit all South Australians. At the Smithfield Plains session, two service providers came up with an idea to collaborate on an initiative that will help young people get to health check-ups.
