As 26th January approaches, we recognise that ‘Australia day’ is not a day of celebration for many First Nations people. The date marks the beginning of dispossession, invasion and intergenerational trauma that continues to affect our communities today.
It is not a day of celebration, it's a day of mourning, reflection and a time to acknowledge the resilience and resistance that continues to carry our communities forward.
Acknowledging Australia's history means facing the uncomfortable truth, that this celebration for some is built on the ongoing pain, injustices and survival of First Nations peoples.
Across the country, many people are calling for the date to change, a welcomed step towards respect, truth and healing. The Voice will keep this conversation going.
We invite you to learn about the contributions, traditions and culture of First Nations peoples, to reflect on the impacts of colonisation, the significance of this date and the ongoing effects still felt by our communities today.
