The Far North Local First Nations Voice was in Umoona and Coober Pedy from 4 to 6 June 2025, where members held a formal Voice meeting and met with community.
Members of the Far North Voice travelled from across the APY Lands and Adelaide to hold a community engagement session at the local TAFE SA campus, and pay visits to the Umoona Tjutagku Health Service, Aged Care and Arts Centre.
Voice Members spoke with community about all three Voice focus areas for 2025, with emphasis on matters impacting Coober Pedy and the surrounding region. Community members spoke about local health and wellbeing services, calling for transparency in service provision, better community education, and the benefits of recruiting locally to fill community-facing roles. The need for better permanent and short-stay housing options to support those required to travel to the region to access essential services was also discussed.
Thank you to the Umoona community for sharing their time with the Voice, and the community service providers who welcomed us into their workplaces.
